FFXIII – Is Lightning a Female Cloud Strife?

FFXII is almost coming in our gaming screen..

And after reading about the FFXIII.. i found out that lightning the main character of FFXIII is the female version of Cloud Strife FFVII..

This new chick is doomed to be Lightning, now and forever.

And it seems to be a fitting name, even though the videos I’ve seen of her so far show her using fire magic rather than, you know, Thundaga. By all accounts, Lightning was designed specifically to be a female version of Cloud — check that face, that pout, that steely attitude. And what do you get when you have strife in a cloud? You get lightning.

Huh. That’s actually sort of disappointingly literal, now that I think about it.

I wonder if gamers will latch onto Lightning the way they have Cloud. His enduring popularity seems to be borne of several unique factors: his hilariously huge sword, his (unconventional at the time) surliness, his rivalry with an iconic villain, and the fact that Final Fantasy VII was many gamers’ first foray into the world of role-playing. That’ll be tough to recreate, although Square Enix seems game to make the effort — they’ve been showing off Lightning action figure prototypes for more than a year now, and she’s the game’s main face in general.

Clearly, they have their jars in hand, lids open, eyes glued to the sky… waiting to bottle that elusive Lightning.
